10 Ways to Make Money Online from the Comfort of Your Home.

Are you looking to make money online? Maybe you already have a job, but you’d like to earn more money on the side so that you can save up for that new house or pay off student loans more quickly. Maybe you’re just interested in getting your feet wet in entrepreneurship, or you’ve always wanted to run your own business from home. Whatever your reasons, there are plenty of ways to make money online, and this article will help you do just that! In fact, the following 10 ways to make money online all originate from right here in the United States.

1) Use an online job site

If you want a more passive but still profitable income, online job sites might be for you. You will be given surveys to answer or tasks to complete and are paid for each survey you complete and every task that is successfully completed. Once you have earned enough money, you can collect it through your PayPal account or transfer it over into your bank account. There are many websites offering these services, such as Swagbucks and Survey Junkie.

2) Work as a freelance writer

It’s possible to make money as a freelance writer. Most companies looking for writers have websites where they post job opportunities, and you can apply through these sites when they seem appropriate. You can even set up your own personal website and wait for potential employers to find you there; once they like your work, they may contact you and ask if you would be interested in working with them regularly. Whatever way you choose to go about it, it’s definitely possible!

3) Sell on Etsy

If you’re a skilled craftsman or craftswoman, consider selling your wares on Etsy. While Etsy is fantastic for handmade goods that you’ve already created, if you’ve got killer designs that would look good on phone cases, t-shirts, or even wall hangings, product branding allows you to sell them directly on Etsy as well. The best part is you can add these products to your own online store – alongside your handmade goods – and affordably multiply your revenue. Create a Shopify store today! Just make sure you take steps in order to protect yourself with trademarks, domain names and more!

4) Participate in market research

Paid market research can be a great way for many people to earn money online. Some companies, including Focus Groups, Inc., conduct surveys via phone or online. Although these are not likely to make you rich, they can still put some extra cash in your pocket. However, before signing up with one of these sites, it’s important that you know how much your time is worth. Being paid to fill out simple surveys might not be worth it if you have a full-time job that doesn’t require much focus.

5) Promote other people’s products

Signing up for paid social media promotion sites like VigLink, ShareASale, and LinkShare will help you make money online through affiliate marketing. You can earn commissions for shopping without having to deal with customer service, just like you would at a regular job. If you have your own website, you can also build an affiliate marketing site on it and potentially make more money through commission than advertisements alone. Check out Martha Stewart’s website as an example—here she promotes multiple products in one post by linking off to relevant items on her company’s retail site via her affiliate links.

6) Sell your photos online

If you have a talent for photography, then why not put it to work for you? You can sell your photos online at sites like Shutterstock, iStockphoto and Getty Images. For example, a photo of a beach at sunset might sell for $50. Selling stock photos is competitive though – there’s plenty of competition out there. If you can capture an exciting moment with your camera, though, or take a unique shot that pushes boundaries in an interesting way, selling your images could be lucrative. With enough great photos, you could even start building up a portfolio that could lead to doing freelance photography or getting paid to take photographs as a side job. If so, it might be worth investing in some good equipment. But above all else: practice!

7) Become a virtual assistant (VA)

If you have business experience and good communication skills, becoming a virtual assistant may be a great side hustle. You can find great gigs on Elance (or if you’re looking for more traditional employment, check out job postings at Monster). A VA is basically an online personal assistant—you can perform administrative tasks or even work on projects and with clients. Check out my post about how to become a virtual assistant .

8) Become an Uber driver or Lyft driver

If you have a car, truck or SUV and are looking for an alternative way to make extra cash — other than selling your old junk on Craigslist — look into driving for Uber or Lyft. To get started, visit our Driving for Uber page for an exclusive promotion on your first ride. Once you’ve completed your first trip, expect your earnings potential to be much higher than what you would get with most other side gigs. And if you don’t like one platform over another, it might be worth while to try them both out and see what fits best with your schedule.

9) Take surveys

Survey site Swagbucks is a user favorite, largely because it offers rewards for things people already do online. A survey may not pay much, but if you qualify for a survey you’ll get an entry into a drawing for a $5 gift card. The only catch: You might need to complete some offers or surveys before claiming your prize. Surveys typically take 10–20 minutes and can be done in exchange for money or gift cards, depending on how you decide to use them. There’s no shortage of survey sites out there—but my favorites are Opinion Outpost and Global Test Market . Both will offer multiple surveys per week (read more in Using Crowdsourcing Sites Like Mechanical Turk ).

10) Affiliate marketing

One approach is affiliating with an established brand. As an affiliate, you earn commission by referring visitors and customers. The affiliate marketer earns a commission on every sale they refer, whether it’s a product, service or information they’re promoting. Most affiliate programs require affiliates to register before they can post ads on social media or their website. For example, if you sign up as an Amazon Associate and promote one of its products using your unique links (which are tracked by Amazon), you will receive a percentage of any sales made through those links.
